a5c7b9f00b Wandering cowhand Bill Bodie (<a href=">Rex Lease), about to be lynched by mistakea horse thief, is rescued by "Scarface" Jennings (<a href=">Richard Alexander) and his outlaw gang. Bill rides across the border and rescues young Bobbie Barton (<a href=">Bobby Nelson) from two of Larkin's henchmen. Larkin holds a note on the Barton ranch, gained in a crooked card game in which Mr. Barton was killed. Bill stays on to help the Bartons. Bobby rescues the injured Scarface from the desert and brings him back to the ranch. Meanwhile, Larkin has bill framed for the killing of Charley Bowen (<a href=">Art Mix) and jailed. Alice (<a href=">Blanche MehaffeyJeanette Morgan) helps Bill break out of jail while Bobby rides for help from Scarface's gang.
Bill travels to a new state after the outlaw Scarface saves him from a lynch mob. There he takes a job on the Barton ranch and joins in the fight against gang leader Larkin. Finding a wounded Scarface he helps him recover. Arrested by Larkin's stooge Sheriff, and with another lynch mob after him, he once again needs Scarface's help.
Playing the title roles in The Cowboy And The Bandit are Rex Lease and Richard Alexander respectively. The film is an independent production and not a bad B western. I counted elements of The Westerner, The Sting, and Shane within the story of this film.<br/><br/>After Alexander saves Lease from a lynching on general principles Lease goes to work for Adabelle Driver and her son Bobby Nelson who are barely holding on to the ranch they have. A gang of outlaws runs the local town and they're making things rough for the two of them.<br/><br/>With the names of the classic films I've given you I think you can figure out a lot of the plot on your own without further information. The film is nicely paced and Lease sits the saddle wella good cowboy hero. Sad this was not done at a major studio, The Cowboy And The Bandit had elements in it that could have turned it into a classic.
